Doing My Best

Trying to give you space and time to feel your feels, no room for mine

Keep life on track so you can grow, wear my brave face so they won’t know

I may never win the war

But maybe just might even the score

Remember the things that started it all? I know it’s there, but I can’t recall

Give it all I’ve got, try not to give up, can’t fill you pouring from an empty cup

Burn the candle from both sides

I’m just trying to keep the spark alive

Should make the time, should clean up this mess

But what can I say? I’m just doing my best

Should drink more water, get more rest

But what can I say? I’m just doing my best

Drink it away and make it drown, drunken smiles always beat sober frowns

Sometimes I want to run and hide when I know I should enjoy the ride

Sleeping dogs, just let them lie

And get some peace before I die

Should make the time, should clean up this mess

But what can I say? I’m just doing my best

Should drink more water, get more rest

But what can I say? I’m just doing my best

Maybe someday I’ll pass this self-imposed test

But what can I say? I’m just doing my best

I will stumble, I confess

But what can I say? I’m just doing my best
