FAQs
Where are you from?
All three of us were born in Dover, Ohio. Hannah and Rachel still live in Dover and Mallory lives in the neighboring city of New Philadelphia.
What instruments do you play?
Mallory plays a ukulele, Hannah plays a guitar, and Rachel plays a bass guitar. Outside of the band, Hannah and Rachel have been known to play the cello and piano, respectively. All of us were in high school music programs including band, orchestra, steel drum band, choir, and thespians.
So…you girls are sisters?
That’s right! Hannah and Rachel are even twins!
Where does the band name come from?
The Kodachrome Babies grew up with a father who lived for capturing the growth of his family on the now-extinct Kodachrome® film. He, their mother, and their oldest sister, Kate, instilled their love of music and performing in the Babes and continue to be very supportive. They’ve even been known to hop in and perform!
Where have you played before?
Since forming in late 2009, we have played at several fundraisers, open mics, bars, galleries, and private events including weddings, anniversary celebrations, and graduation and birthday parties. The following venues/organizations have hosted the Babes numerous times: Bud N Tooties, the Massillon Museum, Uncommon Grounds, Rascals Saloon, the Dover Ballroom, the New Philadelphia Business and Community Association, and the Tuscarawas Valley Family Farm Market.
What kind of music do you play?
Everything from oldies and classic rock to modern favorites and originals! The Kodachrome Babies song inventory includes selections from every decade from the early sixties on. Please see our videos for some examples.
Do you do collaborations?
Yes! The Babes have performed several times with their friends from Valleytown. See their collaboration of “Home.” They also collaborated with Zach Quillen of the Sufferin’ Moses Blues Band, and recently joined friend and fellow musician Atom Lax for his music podcast, the Nomad Sessions.
What types of gigs will you play?
Bars, fundraisers, gallery shows, weddings, you name it, the Babes will consider it. They are a self-proclaimed “opening act,” however, so they would be more at home playing during a wedding pre-ceremony than being the main entertainment at a reception.
If we book you, do we need to provide equipment?
Nope! We have an excellent sound system that we picked up from our buddy Ralph at Roselyn’s Music Studio. If you will be hosting multiple bands, however, our system may not be enough for larger bands (or if you require some additional use of the system at your event, we would gladly accept a small donation that would go straight toward its payment).
Do you play outside of Tuscarawas County?
We have before and will consider doing so for your gig. Just remember we are part-time musicians with full-time jobs and a number of other activities and hobbies, so the earlier we would know about your gig, the better the chances we would be available!
How much do you charge?
It really depends on how long you would need us to play or how far we would need to travel, but we are very flexible. Just understand that any money to the band goes straight toward the sound system and other band expenses!
How do we book you?
Please contact us to check our availability. You can also check out our other scheduled performances to see if we are already booked for the date and time of your gig.
